You are minrcraft getting a error because I think the Minecraft authentication system has changed a lot since alpha, that seems like a logical explanation. Log in or Sign up. This should work for most routers.
Note that there has been at apha one instance where Notch has released a change to Minecraft without actually bumping up the version number, so be careful about that.
